PULSE Partners: ECHO

Marianist PULSE partners with eight Dayton non-profits that provide PULSE volunteers with service learning opportunities. This week, we highlight ECHO (Empowering Children with Hope and Opportunity.) Learn more about ECHO on their website!

ECHO is itself a partnership between the University of Dayton's Center for Catholic Education and Dayton's Catholic schools. ECHO’s expertise is working with children from under-resourced neighborhoods and from diverse cultures.

ECHO's primary goal is to establish and support a healthy learning environment in each classroom so that children are unencumbered by the stresses of everyday life and are able to focus and learn.

Our guest blogger is Rhonda Mercs, Director of ECHO, who writes about the impact of partnering with PULSE:

"ECHO provides services to 14 local Catholic schools by offering counseling services and teaching a Social and Emotional Curriculum. ECHO’s goal is to remove non-academic barriers to learning. With that said, the ECHO staff stays very busy, and continues to think of new projects to implement this is where PULSE comes in to assist."

"PULSE Volunteers over the last two years have assisted ECHO staff in every aspect of the program. The PULSE volunteers have assisted with interviews, marketing, developing and implementing Family Engagement events, teaching Second Step, assisting with data collection, supervising UD interns, social media, organizing the 8th grade retreats, and many more tasks. As a result ECHO is able to achieve more of our goals as a non-profit."

"This school year we are so blessed to have Hannah Sablan as our PULSE Volunteer. Hannah has been a huge asset to the ECHO team. Not only has the ECHO staff been teaching Hannah all aspects of a non-profit, she has brought such enrichment to each of our lives. We are so thankful for her."

We are grateful for the important work of ECHO in the Dayton area, meeting the needs and removing barriers to education for children and families.  ECHO provides an endless opportunity for PULSE to learn from their wisdom and best practices.
